Cocoa sector in Ivory Coast
By establishing a framework conducive to agricultural development, Côte d'Ivoire has positioned itself as a world leader in the production of certain crops, in particular cashew nuts and cocoa. The rise of the latter started from the desire of the authorities to promote cash farming, from the interest of populations in cocoa, whose exports are punctuated by variations in climatic conditions and the demand of the international market.
Moreover, the evolution of production has been driven over time by a number of reforms and innovations, correlated with the growing number of small farmers, the main players in local production. This sectoral report is intended to be an analysis of the cocoa sector in Côte d'Ivoire from production to consumption through processing and marketing. It highlights the various actors and the predominant role they play in the value chain.
The study is based on both qualitative and quantitative methods. It is based on data resulting from documentary research, qualitative interviews with actors in the field and quantitative analyses of data collected on the sites of specialized institutions and organizations.
