Abidjan, economic capital and the most populated city in Côte d'Ivoire, is experiencing significant economic growth that is accompanied by significant real estate development. Increased demographic pressure has resulted in the gradual extension of the city of Abidjan to surrounding municipalities. Abidjan and four of its peripheral municipalities have seen their population increase by 34% over a period of 7 years.
Because of its proximity to Abidjan and its tourist attractions, Grand-Bassam is enjoying unprecedented popularity. Several infrastructure and real estate development projects are being developed, leading to the gentrification of the city's neighborhoods and a new economic impetus.
